About the Course

Having been writing for over a decade (though not continuously!) I am still fascinated by the amount of people who I speak to who say that they have a great idea for a comedy sitcom, sketch show or film. For a lot of these people, however, their ideas remain in their heads, never making it onto paper, let alone the TV or cinema. Sriptwriting Why? Not because these ideas arenĂt worthy or funny! Everyone who has ever cracked a joke over a pint in the pub has the ability to write comedy. Anyone can make people laugh; they just need to work on how to harness that skill and use it. The reason why so many great works go undeveloped is because many people don't know what to do to get their great ideas out of their minds and onto their computer screens. Ideas are such that they circulate in our minds in a fuzzy soup, they get bombarded by the chores, the tasks and the stress we all have to prioritise everyday. They get continuously pushed aside until they fade away all together. This course will give you the knowledge, the skills, the confidence and the time to write the comedy you have always dreamed of. Your comical voice is like a muscle that needs working out but, once you have, you'll reap the rewards. The ability to make people laugh is one of the strongest skills you can have.

If only it was that simple. Well, it kind of is, but you also want to be able to sell your product. There is a lot to emotional risk in trying to entertain people so we deserve to get paid for it. Unfortunately profiting from your work requires the knowledge of and adherence to industry practices. You need to know joke counts per page, narrative structures, multi-layered character development and the rules of writing dialogue if you want to create a masterpiece that will always turn heads. You need to know who to send it to, how to send it to them, who is looking and how much they will pay when you get there.

Unfortunately the writer's career is a long marathon strewn with burning hoops to jump through backwards. Be under no illusions - it is formidably difficult but know this absolute truth... The hardest obstacle you'll ever face in writing is sitting down and... writing! This course is that first monumental hurdle completed.
